Writing about myself is very awkward for me because I’m super modest perhaps to modest but with that being said Hello my name is Rafael Lopez. I’m a New York College of Technology student majoring in communication design. My current goal is to get my BA and become a graphic designer. As I mention writing about myself isn’t something I’m good at so I interviewed myself in hopes of who ever is reading this gets a good sense of me.
What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
I am most passionate about professionally and personally is the ability to use my imagination and self-expression
What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?
In a perfect world where money wasn’t a problem for me or in laymen term rich if I were rich, I would probably be a writer. I would be involve in some type of story telling, music, comics, films, television, poetry
What are you surprisingly good at?
Hmm I would ask a friend or family member but the first thing that pops into my head is being able to look at a people and knowing what celebrity they look like. I know it’s a weird thing to be good at but it’s a talent that assumes me. But its safe to say that isn’t what this question is asking. I believe is my ability to bridge gaps and find connection with either things or people. Not that I connect with people per se that best way to explain it is I’m a creative person which in turn allows me of ways to bridge the gap between disciplines.
What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?
I’m able to solve problems in unconventional ways
How long have you been working in your field?
I haven’t I’m a student at the moment. I was a security guard for about six years but was laid off over the summer in 2016 to be exact for those who might be reading this at a later time in history
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
At the moment I would have to say getting my associate degree. I worked harder to get it and the journey to get to college in general was long. After graduating high in 2006 I didn’t immediately enter college. I was about 18 when I finished high school and didn’t go to college till I was about 23, 24 years old. Theirs a long story in the time between but that’s best left for another day or self evaluation.
How does your education connect to your professional career?
What about personal experiences? The only connection that it has made so far was over the summer I landed a fellowship through the school. I was able to work on a passion project with a mentor of my choice. We worked on an original comic book. Being able to work in that industry is a dream of mine so to learn some aspect of it was an amazing experience.
What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
None at the moment but some I hope to solve are conceptual problems being that I’m very much in my head and I have a big imagination
What are you complimented on most in your work? My ambition. I have big ideas but the know how limits me.
Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?
My ideal client is myself. I would like to have my own business. What type of business not sure yet my interest is in main areas. But I open up my mind to design I’ve come to realize that I’m an image driven person and what I mean by that is illustrations. I’m a big fan of the tattoo, comic, music, sneaker world if I can mix all of those industries or just work in one I’ll be happy.
